2021 was the weirdest and the worst year of my life. however, it was also the year where i consumed most media since probably 2014 and the whole tumblr fandom era, so i couldn't skip the opportunity to talk about some of the favorite things i watched, wrote, read and listened to this year. let's get into it!

overall reflection:
i wrote WAY LESS than i thought i would this year lol, but i'll try to focus on the fact that i wrote for more fandoms this year, one of them not being kpop, which is something i really wanted to do! writing about fictional characters is easier/more fun for me because, well, they're fictional lmao so the fandoms are less strict about what you can or can't write about them. before writing for kpop i used to write about a bunch of tv shows so it felt really nice to go back even if it was just one fic. i also wrote two 2jung fics this year which is a relief because i tried finishing 2jung fics last year but ended up dropping all of them. everyone that knows me knows i love them to death and no other kpop ship will ever compare to these two in my heart so.. let's just say i would be very frustrated if i hadn't written anything for them this year. i also wrote a crossover fic for the first time in forever this year! it was only a small drabble i wrote late at night for my twitter moots (shout-out to amy, cat, andy, min and gaz) but it was a very fun experience.
best/favorite story of the year:
as you wish and untouched were, without a doubt, the best fics i wrote this year. making a witch/writer fic was part of my 2021 goals and i'm so glad i managed to write one with my itzy babies. plus, it's my first yuchae fic too! i love these two a lot and i hope i can write more about them in the future. untouched took a long time to write even though it's just 4k because i wanted to make 2jung aka my favorite kpop ship ever justice, and from all the lovely comments i got in this fic i'm sure i made a good job with this one.
most popular story of the year:
i hear my heart breaking tonight! i just realized this fic has 482 kudos what the HELL... soljiwan nation is insane in the best way possible. i like this fic a lot and i LOVED writing jiwan pov because she's such an endearing character to me + i love sculpture department f4 so.. i'm really really really glad this is my most popular fic of the year :)
2022 writing goals:
after 2021 i know better than to set a bunch of unrealistic goals because i always end up getting obsessed with something unexpected so i'll try to be quick here. i reaaaaaaaaally really really want to write mcu wlw fic because it's my current obsession, most specifically WANDANAT fic because they are my favorite ship and also the loves of my fucking life. now for kpop i'm not really sure... i'll keep writing for itzy and wjsn i guess? a fic with jisu as the main character instead of the love interest? maybe some blackpink? i think that's all ;_;

overall reflection:
can you tell the mcu took over my life out of nowhere LMAO... this is what i meant when i said i never know what to expect when it comes to what i'm going to become obsessed with next. i never EVER thought i would become a mcu fan but look at my silly ass now:
anyway... i read a lot of fic this year (139 bookmarks wtf????) and i feel like my reading preferences changed a little bit, mainly after i got into the mcu (i love reading some sadder/heavier stuff now LOL and lots of blood/injury/chaos overall) but i still love some good old fluff with #idiots_in_love. i can't wait to see how my 2021 reads are going to affect my 2022 writing!

dear god this is FOTY (fic of the year) to me. i am nothing if not endofdaysforme fan, yelenat fan and wandanat fan. i read this in two nights and i was so sad when i finished reading it because it was SO good i didn't want it to end. i love everything about this: yelenat healing, yelena meeting the avengers (and being friends with pietro!!! and lena being all excited to meet thor!! GOD I LOVE THEM SM) and wandanat's dynamic was so sweet here too. i'll definitely read this again. i can't recommend this fic enough.

novoaa1 is like the god of wandanat ao3 tag and i've read a bunch of their fics but i chose this one for this list because i had a lot of fun reading it! one wandanat fic "cliche" that i can't get enough of is natasha trying to help wanda with her nightmares and wanda accidentally smacking natasha into christmas eve while still sleeping <3 and natasha not being mad at her <3 and i often think about how natasha got blasted out the fucking avengers tower in this one... my poor baby. anyway, i love this one a lot.

overall reflection:
i decided to make a non-kpop version of my top songs because i looped a bunch of kpop songs in the first half of the year and it kind of fucked up my list LOL so i wanted to see what i listened to without looping it like an insane person, and this list is actually pretty accurate to what i enjoyed listening to this year!
if you're familiar with tv show/movie fandom spaces you're going to recognize some of the songs in here as being overused in edits and such, but i honestly don't mind because they are soooo good and fit my tastes just fine. i'm actually thankful for these edits (and tiktok trends because yes i live like this) for kind of carrying my 2021 music catalog on their backs LMAO.
one song of this list that i REALLY want to recommend is gloomy girl by softcult. this song has like, 300k plays on spotify and i think it's too little because it's so good. if you like sad music that make you feel like you're climbing the golden stairs to heaven please give it a chance, you won't regret it.
it's not on my top songs/albums but i enjoyed a lot of songs by olivia rodrigo this year too, it was impossible to escape them and no matter what people say they are GOOD. i don't care. she did what she had to do. another artist that was impossible to escape was doja cat and god was planet her filled with perfect ass songs that carried me on their backs. the neighborhood didn't appear in my list too but i started listening to them a lot during the last months of 2021 for #reasons (i am gay) (fandom culture) (edits) (i am gay) (lesbian) (gay) (homossexual) (so many songs remind me of wanda and natasha) (girl kisser) and even though i know most of their songs for years i can't seem to get enough of them. aaaaaand of course i want to talk about taylor and phoebe releasing a song together because WHAT THE HELL. nothing new broke me in two why is that song so PERFECT and so incredibly SAD. they are going to pay for my therapy i don't care. i'm sending them my bills.

look, first of all: WANDAVISION YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS. second, NATASHA ROMANOFF YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS. that's all i have to say. goodbye.
i'm kidding. well, as you can see, 2021 was the year where i got into the mcu so most of the movies on the list are marvel movies. but none of them hit me as hard as wandavision, which is the best thing i watched this year and one of the best things i've watched in my whole entire life. to me wandavision is art, poetry, pain, sadness and romance all squished together into one big masterpiece of a tv show. "what is grief if not love persevering?" WHAT??????????!???!?? I'M SORRY WHAT???!?? not to mention wanda is such an endearing, lovely and powerful woman and it's been a long time since i was this in love with a fictional character and it feels very refreshing to have found The One again. wandavision hits all the right spots for me and as of now i've watched the whole thing around eleven times because i can't get enough of it. whenever i watch it again i find something new to love about this show.
it was thanks to wandavision that i decided to get into the mcu and god am i thankful i did because it's so fun
soljiwan was also an iconic moment of my year! i'm so grateful for the twitter people who didn't shut up about them since nevertheless aired because they are my BABIES. i love their dynamic, i love seo jiwan my pretty little angel and i love sculpture department f4. god do i miss seeing everyone losing their minds over these two every weekend lmao. soljiwan was lesbians' biggest win of 2021.
i was also obsessed with dead poets society (anderperry my beloveds, they were boyfriends and you can't tell me otherwise) and thanks to this movie i started watching a bunch of other sad-ish coming-of-age movies and i'm enjoying this genre a lot. maybe i do need therapy but will i stop watching them? no. no i won't <3

overall thoughts:
hmmmm where do i even begin with kpop this year lol. yes, there were a few good releases (like wjtb, unnatural, itzy's albums, bp's solos, txt's releases which were surprisingly really good?? etc) but overall this is my least favorite year as a kpop stan so far. a bunch of groups that i loved disbanded, 3rd gen aka my favorite generation is at the verge of disappearing, just a lot of upsetting stuff in general... my only hope for 2022 is a blackpink ot4 comeback at this point LMAO. i'll keep stanning the groups i mentioned but i'm not sure if i'll ever get into anything new again :/
