inspired by sleepyshamrocks's and lovebalance's posts. let's get into it!

1. first time you encountered canon femslash
glee, brittana, in 2011. i started watching glee and became a fan before i noticed there was something going on between brittany and santana (i was 10 and clueless at the time) and for context, i wasn't aware you could watch shows online nor did i have The Greatest computer/internet access. i wasn't fluent in english yet either. so i depended on fox brazil to watch glee episodes, and i couldn't always watch everything in order so i'd always end up missing an episode or two. so, when santana told brittany that she liked her my world FELL APART. i literally freaked out and was so mad. santana was my favorite character, and the fact that she... LIKED GIRLS??? destroyed me. and then the very next day i was googling "brittany and santana" and the rest is history...

2. first time you encountered femslash shipping
same answer as number 1. through brittana i also found out about faberry and quinntana so that was quite the experience for a 10 year old.

3. is femslash the main part of your fandom life?
without a doubt. i have little to no interest in anything that involves men, and that's not something that started after i found out lesbians were a thing that existed. i've always been a very girly girl and always liked cartoons/movies/etc that were about girls, for girls, and rarely ever paid attention to the men.

4. have you already started a canon just because you knew there would be femslash shipping opportunities?
honestly, 99% of the time i start something because of the femslash shipping opportunities. this is going to sound so crazy but one of the first things i asked my cousin who introduced me to kpop was "what is the popular ship from snsd?" because i am Just Like That. genuinely can't think of a single piece of media that i didn't start solely because of it... some recent ones would be yellowjackets, abbott elementary (i already wanted to watch it before, but then i saw someone on tiktok talk about how the most popular ship from abbott's ao3 tag is old women yuri and i was like OH? SAY NO MORE). this is probably the reason why i can't get into anime because all i see people talk about are men. where are the girls? where is the YURI? (i know they are there and i have to search for it but you get what i mean, right? i don't see yuri content coming from the Big Animes)

5. canon, subtext, or make-everything-work-by-yourself ships?
i love them all! but i must say i started to see the beauty of make-everything-work-by-yourself ships after i got into the mcu since basically all of the wlw mcu ships are like that. but it's SO FUN not to depend on canon for anything. no expectations, no confirmations... just FUN.

6. a femslash ship you feel like you're alone in shipping
um... this is a very recent one, but i was so shocked to find out not a lot of people ship jessica jones/carol danvers? i finished reading the first volume of a jessica comic that had a lot of moments between her and carol and i was soooo intrigued by their dynamic. for context, jessica literally threw her life in the trash and went to jail for a plan made by carol to catch a villain. which did work in the end, but my GOD? she literally fucked her entire life for carol. she has a whole daughter that she didn't see for what, months? years? because she did what carol asked her to. the amount of trust you need to have on someone to do something like that? very excited to read volume 2 because it seems like jessica is starting to question if it's all Actually worth it... i love dramatic yuri

7. did you see a change in femslash fandom since the time you started fandom?
hm... i don't know if it's femslash fandom overall or just the spaces i frequent or friends i've made along the way, but everyone seems more mature now? tbh it's probably just my circle. who am i trying to fool.

8. some femslash poly ships? what are your opinions about f/f/m poly?
anyone else a huge fan of supergirl kara/lena/sam? agents of shield jemma/daisy/bobbi? i think these two poly ships are my favorites and i've read a decent amount of fics about them. i like it when people throw any mcu woman between wanda and natasha (except for yelena, what is wrong with all of you!!!) too. also i'd rather get shot than think about f/f/m poly. why would a man be there it's actually pissing me off etc

9. do you feel like shipping femslash is different from shipping slash, het or other? how?
it's cooler! god bless!

10. favourite tropes for femslash ships?
  • good old best friends to lovers. but esp if they've been friends since they were little kids/pre-teens. the yearning the fear the anxiety the uncertainty "i know you better than anyone else" etc etc
  • girls that want to KILL EACH OTHER. literally or not
  • i hate everyone but you
  • older women yuri with second chance at love! finding out you're still worthy of love!
  • trauma bonding? is this even a trope? if it's not, it will be from now on
  • anything tragic. not just death (which i also enjoy, stares at wandanat, jackieshauna, lottienat) but like, tragedy overall. girls being separated against their will, outside forces stopping them from being together, etc.

    11. fluff, humor, angst, or smut?
i'd like a little bit of everything in my salad, please. (heavy) angst with a happy ending is my favorite, though.

    12. are there some m/m or m/f ships that you love genderswapped as f/f?
    nah.

    13. did you already write original femslash? if so, what was it about? if not, what would it be about if you did? If you would never, why?
i definitely have but i don't remember now, so. i'm so deep into fandom culture that i don't even know if i'd ever write it again/what i would write... i'll get back to this question later.

    14. favorite femslash ship of all times
i can't choose one, but here are a few that marked my life in one way or another: brittana, wandanat, soljiwan. recent faves: lottienat, jackieshauna, taivan.

    15. a guilty pleasure
not really a guilty pleasure (that one tweet that op said "i don't feel guilty about liking things i'm not catholic") but i guess monsam would fit this category. gap is so fun! cringy at times, of course, but it adds to the charm... us sapphics also deserve these types of things and i'm eating it up.

    16. a fandom where i have so many femslash ships
yellowjackets and mcu my favorite yuri sandboxes. people will slap the two most random characters together and i'll be like "yeah. this makes perfect sense, actually. give me more." i think the craziest one i've seen is shauna/laura lee. there's this one person on tiktok that makes a bunch of edits and aus about them and i'm like YOU GO LEGEND! SPEAK YOUR TRUTH!

    17. a femslash pairing I like on principle without even being in the fandom
rhaenicent... i'll probably never watch hotd but i love them so much i'm obsessed with the dynamics and optics. ESPECIALLY alicent and i don't get why people hate her so much. fucking losers. leave this poor tragic lesbian woman alone. i was always eyeing wolfwren from ahsoka when they showed up on my fyp/timeline too... they are so hot god bless

    18. a character i headcanon as lesbian/wlw without having big ships with her
maleficent, i think. i've seen couples cosplay as her and cruella and really had me Thinking about them as a ship. but right now, yeah, i think maleficent is a decent answer.

    19. rec day! canon or fics, as long as it's femslash! or even shippable!
you smile when you dive in (like you're never coming back). this fic sold me on this ship and i've never been the same again.

    20. do you like your femslash homophobia-free?
hmmm i genuinely don't mind homophobia in fictional stories. i know a lot of people are iffy about it, understandably so, but personally i don't mind at all.

    21. thoughts about lesbian tragedy and bad endings?
i used to hate it when i was younger but now i'm like, oh so you're telling me something terrible happens to one of them? give it to me right the fuck now. (let's not ponder on why)

    22. thoughts about (purely fictional!) lesbian unhealthy relationships?
yes. a hundred times yes. give me all the unhinged little lesbians.

    23. historical, fantasy or sci-fi? (or, if none of the above, what and why?)
    love them all!

    24. a time where a canon really surprised you, in a good (and femslash) way
i've heard a thing or two about "the favourite" being for the lesbians, but i thought it was simply because Hot Actresses. i wasn't expecting to, you know... see rachel weisz's character fucking olivia colman's character. and then emma stone's fucking olivia colman's character too. this movie is so insane (affectionate) and the power dynamics fuckery is top tier.

    25. a time where a canon really disappointed you (in a femslash or lack of femslash way)
i'm so easy to please when it comes to femslash to the point where it's ridiculous, so any movie/show that manages to piss me off should be banned for life and never be watched by someone else again. and that movie is HAPPIEST SEASON. i could write a whole paragraph on why i hate this movie but i'll simply keep my thoughts to myself.

    26. what do you love the most, and what do you love the least, about femslash fans?
tbh it varies from fandom to fandom, but what i love the most is the dedication/adoration people usually have for their pairings. like, i could text any friend of mine right now and ask them why they love their emotional support yuri couple and they'd give me the most beautiful, detailed essay on why those two idiots are made for each other. overall i hate younger fans trying to get into older fans' business. go do your homework. get the fuck out. so annoying.

    27. very last time you encountered canon femslash. was it a surprise or were you looking for it?
i bought a bunch of comics last month, and while going through them i found some interesting stuff. like, i knew there was going to be harlivy in ivy's new comic run, but i wasn't expecting it to be so good! such a beautiful, heart-wrenching story so far.

    28. now answer the important question about femslash i've forgotten to ask.
this was soooo fun to answer and i hope my answers were fun to read, too! god bless yuri. and if you haven't yet, please watch yellowjackets!
