ring, ring a bell

or, (mostly) kpop songs i've been listening to recently.
1. ring x ring, billlie
π: i have so much to say about this track. it will soon be a year since i've (finally) started to listen to billlie and this song still has me in the most insane chokehold. if was a bit more skilled in article-type posts i'd write an entire essay on how ring x ring perfectly depicts trauma, guilt and innocence (or the loss of it) in both its lyrics (itβs alright / no iβm not okay / will be fine / you know very well iβm not okay < this part sounds to me like the narrator is in the middle of a panic attack, trying to calm herself down after experiencing the most traumatic event of her life, which is exactly the starting point of billlie's lore-if you don't know what i'm talking about please look up about their lore, it's on youtube!) and production (the loudest fucking instrumental you'll ever hear in your life, paired with child-like melodies such as all the lalala's, etc) ANYWAY i already said too much. just know this song/billlie's lore are one of the best things to ever happen in kpop.
2. satellite, shinee
π: stumbled across this song yesterday while i was searching for some new music, and oh my god-the second i heard that intro i knew i was going to love this song. onew absolutely owns this track, what a voice!!!
3. zoom, badvillain
π: PULL UP WITH THE GIRLS SO LET'S GO. λΆλ¬λ€μ¬ νΌλ LET'S GO. HELL YEAH. i think phonk is one of the coolest genres out there, and to see a group of insanely skilled girls take on a concept like this... OOF. the bad bitch/girl crush style can get annoying/boring sooooo easily if you don't add interesting things into the mix (concept-wise or production-wise) and badvillain have been doing a great job in bringing innovation to this type of music so far. cannot wait for their future releases!
4. ufo, f5ve
π: the vicious grip this song has on my friend group right now needs to be studied, but can you even blame us? this is both the prettiest and the craziest song i've come across in quite some time. i love the music video too, it's so much fun!!! i love f5ve and i won't be surprised if this song ends up becoming #1 on my spotify wrapped this year.
5. dim, yves
π: imagine my surprise when i found out that the song that people have been using non-stop to talk about their deepest traumas on tiktok was by miss ha sooyoung herself? a hauntingly beautiful track that tugs at my heartstrings each and every single time i listen to it, i hope she never stops making music...
6. over u, seeun x j
π: AIN'T NOBODY TOLD ME NOTHING. why did i have to find out about this masterpiece through stayc's killing voice video????? this song is exactly my type and now that i found out about its existence i'll cherish it forever.
7. moto princess, triples
π: triples and their discography are the closest thing i have to the wjsn experience right now and i'd be a fool not to enjoy every single second of it. what a song. what a PRODUCTION! makes me feel like i'm in other universe entirely. mayu kills me in this one oh my god i love her so much it's not even funny...
8. strawberry silhouette, irene
π: IRENE BAE JOOHYUN [CROWD CHEERING] the rap in the middle of the song got me so off guard but in a good way. such a great album overall + i love love love the concept, everything is so pretty and delicate while still being a mature project, i couldn't help but get lost in it.
β
that's it for now! i'm in the process of listening to a looooot of albums i didn't pay much attention to (because i simply stopped caring for kpop, especially bsides, for the longest time lol) so i'll probably make another post like this very soon.
